5 Hidden Gems in Thailand to Visit in 2025
By Siri- 2/19/2025
After more than ten trips to Thailand, I’ve realized that the best experiences aren’t always in the most obvious places. While many travelers head straight to Phuket, Chiang Mai, or Koh Samui, I’ve found that some of Thailand’s most incredible destinations are the ones that offer: A more relaxed atmosphere, fewer crowds and a deeper sense of local charm— without sacrificing the breathtaking beauty, amazing food, and unforgettable experiences that make Thailand so special.
If you're looking for stunning beaches, hidden gems, and a more authentic vibe, these are my five absolute favorite places to visit in Thailand.
1. Koh Kood – The Untouched Paradise

📍 Location: Eastern Thailand, near the Cambodian border
Koh Kood will always have a special place in my heart—this is where I got engaged! 💍✨ Beyond the sentimental value, it’s truly one of Thailand’s last unspoiled islands, with pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and a laid-back atmosphere. Unlike its busier neighbors, Koh Kood remains largely untouched, making it the perfect escape from the crowds.
If you're planning a trip, check out my guide on how to get from Bangkok to Koh Kood to make your journey smooth and stress-free!
Why visit?
- Secluded white-sand beaches like Ao Noi Beach
- Stunning waterfalls, including Khlong Chao Waterfall
- Excellent snorkeling and diving spots
- A peaceful, slow-paced atmosphere, perfect for relaxation
✨ Best time to visit: November to April for the best weather
📍 Where to stay? Check out Soneva Kiri for luxury or Siam Beach Resort for a budget-friendly stay.
2. Koh Lipe – Thailand’s "Maldives"

📍 Location: Andaman Sea, near the Malaysian border
Often called the "Maldives of Thailand," Koh Lipe is home to crystal-clear turquoise waters, powdery white sand, and a laid-back island vibe. Unlike Thailand’s bigger islands, everything here is within walking distance, making it perfect for a slow, stress-free escape.
Why visit?
- Sunrise Beach – Some of the softest sand you’ll ever walk on
- Snorkeling straight from the shore – No boat needed
- Sunset Beach – The best spot for a cocktail while watching the sun dip into the ocean.
- Kayaking to nearby islets – Explore hidden beaches and lagoons
✨ Best time to visit: December to April for the best weather and clearest waters
📍 Where to stay? Try Ten Moons Lipe Resort for a beachfront escape or The Cliff Lipe Resort for stunning views.
3. Koh Tao – Thailand’s Diving Heaven

📍 Location: Gulf of Thailand
Koh Tao is famous for being one of the world's best and cheapest places to get PADI-certified for scuba diving. With its vibrant coral reefs, diverse marine life, and laid-back island vibe, it’s an excellent alternative to its busier neighbor, Koh Samui.
Why visit?
- Incredible diving and snorkeling spots (Shark Bay, Mango Bay)
- Affordable PADI diving courses
- Breathtaking sunsets at John Suwan Viewpoint
- Great for hiking and cliff jumping
✨ Best time to visit: February to September for the clearest waters
📍 Where to stay? Try The Dearly Koh Tao Hostel for budget travelers or Jamahkiri Resort & Spa for luxury.
4. Koh Mook – Thailand’s Best-Kept Secret

📍 Location: Andaman Sea, off the coast of Trang Province
For an off-the-beaten-path island adventure, head to Koh Mook. This small, laid-back island is home to one of Thailand’s most magical hidden wonders: Emerald Cave (Morakot Cave), a secret lagoon hidden inside towering limestone cliffs.
Why visit?
- Emerald Cave, a hidden lagoon only accessible by swimming through a dark cave
- Stunning, secluded beaches like Sivalai Beach
- Authentic Thai island life, with local fishing villages
- Great kayaking and exploring opportunities
✨ Best time to visit: November to April for the best conditions
📍 Where to stay? Consider Koh Mook Sivalai Beach Resort for a beachfront retreat.
5. Bangkok’s Hidden Neighborhoods – Beyond the Tourist Traps

📍 Location: Central Thailand
Bangkok is not just temples and street markets—there are countless hidden neighborhoods off the tourist radar that offer authentic Thai experiences. Skip Khao San Road and explore these lesser-known gems:
Where to explore?
- Talad Noi: An old neighborhood with colorful street art and hidden cafés
- Bangkok By Bike – This was one of the highlights of my last trip to Bangkok. Cycling through quiet backstreets, lush canals, and hidden communities gave me a whole new perspective on the city. If you want to see the untouristed, authentic side of Bangkok, this is the best way to do it.
- Ari District: A trendy area filled with hipster cafés and local street food gems
- Chinatown’s secret sois (alleys): Discover hidden temples and hole-in-the-wall restaurants
✨ Best time to visit: November to February
📍 Where to stay? Try The Mustang Nero Hotel for a unique boutique stay or Siam Kempinski for luxury.
